FOLDED LOG CABIN

advanced beginner

Black and white pictures cannot do this exquisite quilt justice. Sue has taken this technique to a whole new level. Starting with a foundation base,
the basic block consists of fabric logs that have been pressed in half, stacked and stitched around a center square. These blocks create the most interesting dimensional texture in a wallhanging. As an added incentive, when you purchase your fabric for this class we will Accu-cut all the strips for you!

This was one of our favorite quilts in Houston this past fall. The deep chocolate and delicious cocoa colors combine to create a visually stunning quilt (which our black/white picture at right cannot begin to impress upon you). Chris has some tips on working with the Bali Pop strips to keep your piecing accurate and blocks square! The Easy Angle and Companion Angle rulers will keep you on the right track and make cutting oh-so-easy. Kits are available.

Lemoyne star ruler explorations

advanced beginner

This is one cool ruler! There are NO set in seams and the stars are created from strips which are then cut into the proper shape using the ruler. There is virtually no waste with this method. The ruler allows you to create full size Lemoyne Star blocks that are a tiny 3" size all the way up to a 12" block. The design possibilities are endless with this tool.

PIECED APPLIQUE

advanced beginner

Pieced applique is an innovate new technique to create traditional pieced blocks with more accuracy. Every quilter can create sharp points, flawless curves, and eliminate the dreaded puckers that can occur when piecing
inset points and "Y" seams. You will create basic blocks, such as a nine patch or hourglass block, and then use the paper templates and a layering technique to turn those basic blocks into totally WOW blocks. No set-in seams, no partial seaming or other hair-raising techniques; just simple applique by hand or machine. You need to stop in to see Chris's class sample made with Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

tile quilt revival

beginner

Traditional tile quilts are a unique and somewhat obscure form of applique. The quilts are constructed with small pieces of cotton fabric appliquéed in a random manner to a white background, leaving a narrow space between the pieces which serves as the “grout” between the tiles. Join Becky to explore this intriguing form of applique. Hand and machine applique methods will be taught.
